Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 303 AM EDT Sat Jun 29 2019 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 29 2019 - 12Z Mon Jul 01 2019 ...Slight risk for severe weather on Saturday from the northern Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley as well as across parts of the Northeast... ...Heavy rainfall possible along a slow moving cold front in the Upper Midwest on Sunday... ...Hot and humid conditions expected to persist this weekend from the Plains to the Upper Midwest... A cold front pushing through the Northern Plains today will be the focus for convection with a slight risk for strong to severe thunderstorms (per the latest SPC outlook). On Sunday, the boundary could be slower to move across parts of the Upper Midwest resulting in repeated training of thunderstorms and a slight risk for excessive rainfall/flash flooding. A second cold front pushing through the Northeast today will also bring a risk for locally heavy rainfall and severe weather. Across the Gulf Coast states and Florida, expect a daily dose of scattered thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall possible. A building upper level ridge over the Central U.S. will continue to bring hot and humid conditions to much of the central and northern Plains into the Upper Midwest this weekend. Daytime highs could reach well into the 90s for many locations, but with the increased humidity, it will feel like its over 100 degrees. Heat advisories are in effect for parts of this region. Temperatures into the Eastern U.S. will also be above average on Saturday, but the cold front passage Saturday evening should bring some relief from the heat by Sunday.
