Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 249 AM EDT Sun Jun 30 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 30 2019 - 12Z Tue Jul 02 2019 ...Severe weather and heavy rainfall possible Sunday and Monday from the Upper Midwest to the Northern Plains... ...Heat wave across parts of the Central U.S. will continue Sunday and into Monday... A nearly stationary frontal boundary draped from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the north-central High Plains will provide a focus for heavy rain and strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. Both SPC and WPC highlight this region within a slight risk for severe weather and excessive rainfall/flash flooding, respectively. Showers and storms also extend eastward into the lower Ohio Valley and southern Mid-Atlantic on Sunday while a surface low off the Northeast coast will bring unsettled wet weather to parts of New England. Down south, scattered and diurnally driven showers and storms are expected across the Gulf Coast states and Florida, with locally heavy rainfall possible across parts of central Texas underneath of weak upper level troughing. Expect another day of oppressive heat and humidity across the north-central U.S. on Sunday, with daytime highs into the 90s and heat indices above 100 likely for many. Heat advisories remain in effect from northern Kansas to southern Minnesota. The heat will linger into Monday as well, but should moderate somewhat with the approaching frontal boundary. Above normal temperatures also extend into the Southeast, while closer to average or just below average temperatures are expected across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast the next couple of days.
