Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 643 PM EDT Mon Jul 01 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 02 2019 - 00Z Thu Jul 04 2019 ...Heat building across the eastern U.S. and storms expected from the central Plains to the Great Lakes... The weather pattern across the continental U.S. will be featured with a broad upper level ridge situated over the south-central U.S. and an upper level trough over the Pacific Northwest. At the surface, a meandering front will exist from the central Rockies to the Great Lakes region, with a stronger cold front arriving by Tuesday afternoon across the northern Plains. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are forecast from eastern Colorado to Michigan over the next couple of days on the northern periphery of the upper ridge and along and just north of the front. One to two inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts, is expected within this corridor through Wednesday evening, and some instances of severe weather are likely as well. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., scattered showers and storms are expected to develop across parts of southern Texas, the Florida Peninsula, northern Rockies, and the Ohio Valley region. In terms of temperatures, the ongoing heat wave across the north-central U.S. is abating. After a brief return to near normal temperatures across the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast Monday, readings will rise to above normal levels by mid-week with widespread upper 80s and 90s for the East Coast states along with increasing levels of humidity and diurnal showers and storms. The combination of heat and humidity forecast will flirt with heat advisory criteria in some areas from mid-week onward.
