A cold front that entered the Northern Plains/Rockies from Canada will bring unsettled weather to the region through Thursday morning. The Storm Prediction Center issued a Slight Risk of Severe Thunderstorms over the Northern Plains through tonight. There is a Slight Chance of excessive rainfall for the Northern Plains through Thursday morning. Around 2 inches of rainfall is likely. High temperatures will be between 15-20 degrees below normal as cooler air filters in behind the frontal passage over Montana on Wednesday. Meanwhile, an Elevated Risk of Fire Weather is in effect for parts of the Southwest and Great Basin tonight through Wednesday as a weak upper-level ridge persists over the region. A stationary boundary that continues to extend across the Central Plains and Great Lakes will produce moderate to heavy rainfall for parts of the Central Plains, Upper Mississippi Valley, and into the Mid-Atlantic through Thursday. 1-2 inches of rain is possilble for portions of northern Kansas, central Iowa and the eastern coast of North Carolina. A combination of upper-level troughing and Gulf moisture advection will produce 1-2 inches of rain for part of the Texas Gulf coast. Above average temperatures are expected for parts of the Upper Great Lakes and East coast through Thursday. Temperatures around 10 degrees above normal are likely for places like the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern New York/New England.
