Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 310 AM EDT Wed Jul 03 2019 Valid 12Z Wed Jul 03 2019 - 12Z Fri Jul 05 2019 ...Slight risk for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding across portions of the Northern Plains on Wednesday... ...Heat and humidity continue through the Fourth of July for much of the East... A cold front dropping through the northern tier states will continue to be a focus for showers and thunderstorms from the Northwest to the Upper Mississippi Valley. Strong to severe thunderstorms containing heavy to excessive rainfall will be possible along the frontal boundary, especially across portions of the Northern Plains where the boundary may be slower to move. Temperatures into the end of the Holiday week are forecast to be 10 to 20 degrees below normal across Montana and into the High Plains as cold air filters in behind the front. Wednesday and the Fourth of July will be hot and humid across much of the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic with daytime highs forecast in the mid to upper 90s for many, with even higher heat indices. Heat advisories are currently in effect across portions of northern Florida and southeast Georgia where combined heat and humidity may make it feel closer to 105 to 110 degrees. Above normal temperatures also extend up the Eastern Seaboard and westward across the Ohio Valley and the Upper Midwest. Moisture advecting northward from the Gulf of Mexico rounding the upper ridge will interact with a weakening frontal boundary to produce daily threats for afternoon showers and storms from the Southern Plains to the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic.
