Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 326 PM EDT Mon Jul 22 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 23 2019 - 00Z Thu Jul 25 2019 ...There is a Moderate Risk of Flash Flooding over parts of the Central Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic, and into Southern New England... ...Much cooler and drier conditions for the southern Plains into the Southeast/Mid-Atlantic Tuesday... A strong cold front was currently moving southward and eastward through the Ohio Valley and lower Mississippi Valley which will put an end to the recent heat wave in the East. Severe storms and locally heavy rainfall will lead to areas of flash flooding especially in urban corridors this afternoon into this evening. Temperatures and the humidity will drop in its wake with a much cooler air mass for Tuesday--most areas will see below normal readings for late July in the 70s and lower 80s behind the front. This may even lead to record low temperatures both Tuesday and Wednesday morning from the central Plains into the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley. In addition, afternoon temperatures may stay in the low 80s in parts of the South with lower humidity. Ahead of the front tomorrow, another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms will be possible over the Carolinas. To the west, a weak front will very slowly move through Washington/Oregon with only light rainfall. By late Tuesday, the front will increase its movement eastward and push over the Divide and into Montana with cooler temperatures for the Pacific Northwest in its wake. In the Southwest, monsoonal moisture will help fire off afternoon storms generally in the mountains and high deserts from Arizona northward and eastward. WPC has a Slight Risk area highlighted for the potential for flash flooding as have some of the local offices. Blowing dust may be a problem in the lower deserts as thunderstorms collapse later in the evening. Fracasso Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
