Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 PM EDT Wed Jul 24 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Jul 25 2019 - 00Z Sat Jul 27 2019 ...Showers and thunderstorms could lead to flash flooding over parts of the Desert Southwest through tonight... ...A stalled front will bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms across much of Florida through Friday... ...Much of the eastern two-thirds of the country will enjoy relatively cool temperatures for late July... A cool air mass will continue to dominate much of the central and eastern U.S. for the next couple of days, bringing relatively pleasant conditions across the region for the middle of summer. In fact, many locations across the Deep South will see temperatures tying or breaking their daily minimum records on Thursday and Friday. The leading edge of the cool air mass is expected to stall across northern Florida, keeping a good chance of showers and thunderstorms across much of Florida through Friday. Near the tail end of the stalled front, a low pressure center could linger in the western Gulf of Mexico where the National Hurricane Center is monitoring the potential for tropical cyclone development. By Friday, it appears that moisture associated with the stalled front will begin to edge its way northward back toward the western and central Gulf Coast. Farther north, a cold front is forecast to push its way eastward across the northern High Plains through tonight and continue into the northern Plains on Thursday. Scattered thunderstorms ahead of the cold front could become severe as they march across the aforementioned areas through Thursday. The thunderstorms should become weaker in nature by the time they reach the upper Great Lakes on Friday. Over the southwestern part of the country, monsoonal moisture will keep a good chance of showers and thunderstorms from the Great Basin eastward into the central and southern Rockies, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. The rain could be heavy enough to result in flash flooding over parts of the Desert Southwest through tonight. Elsewhere, afternoon temperatures reaching the triple digits have prompted heat advisories for parts of central and southern California.
