A cool air mass will continue to dominate much of the central and eastern U.S. through Saturday, bringing relatively pleasant conditions across the region for the middle of summer. The front over Northern Florida will stall across the area, producing showers and thunderstorms across much of Florida through Saturday. A front extending from the Northern Plains to the Central Rockies into the Great Basin will move eastward to Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes roughly westward to the Northern Intermountain Region by Friday evening. The boundary will produce showers and thunderstorms, some could be severe as indicated by the Storm Prediction Center on Thursday. The showers and thunderstorms will move into the Upper Great Lakes into the Middle Mississippi Valley/Central Plains by Saturday morning. Meanwhile, monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms from the Great Basin/Southwest eastward to the Central/Southern Rockies through late Friday evening. The storms will have the greatest areal coverage during the late afternoon and late evening hours on Thursday and Friday. The heaviest rain will be over parts of Nevada and Central/Southern Rockies where excessive rainfall could result in flash flooding. WPC issued a slight risk of excessive rainfall over these regions.
