Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Fri Jul 26 2019 Valid 00Z Sat Jul 27 2019 - 00Z Mon Jul 29 2019 ...Showers and thunderstorms are expected across portions of the Upper Midwest through weekend, including the potential for some severe weather... ...The Southwest monsoon season will continue to favor scattered showers and thunderstorms, and potentially some areas of flash flooding... ...Much of the eastern half of the country will continue to enjoy pleasant and dry weather through the weekend... After a couple mornings of record cool readings across the South, temperatures will recover somewhat for the weekend. High temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 80s to lower 90s for much of the eastern two-thirds of the country (except near 100 along the Rio Grande Valley of Texas), which will remain slightly cooler than normal for late July across the Deep South. A stalled front will continue to bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms across much of Florida and long the Gulf Coast through the weekend. Locally heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding in these areas. Meanwhile, a cold front edging slowly across the northern Plains could trigger strong to severe thunderstorms across the upper Midwest through this evening. Rain chances will also increase across the Intermountain West into the northern Rockies through tonight as some of the monsoonal moisture from the south interacts with the tail end of the cold front. During the weekend, an upper-level impulse arriving from the Pacific Northwest will spread the precipitation eastward into the northern Plains on Sunday. The precipitation will likely reach the upper Midwest by Sunday evening in the form of scattered thunderstorms. Elsewhere, monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will again trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Desert Southwest northeast across portions of the Great Basin and into the central and southern Rockies through the weekend. Some of the rainfall will be heavy, and some areas of flash flooding will be possible as a result across these areas. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
