As the workweek begins, a cold front is expected to push through the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest Sunday night and Monday and southeastward into the Central Plains to Upper Great Lakes region on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in the vicinity of this front over the next couple of days. Slight Risks of severe weather have been outlooked by the Storm Prediction Center for portions of the Dakotas, Nebraska, and northern Minnesota through Sunday night, with another Slight Risk on Monday for the Central Plains and Middle/Upper Mississippi Valley. Locally heavy rainfall and isolated instances of flooding or flash flooding are possible in these areas as well. Monsoonal moisture continues to flow into the Four Corners region into the Rockies and High Plains, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Marginal Risks of excessive rainfall/flash flooding are in effect for these areas where locally heavy rain could occur. Showers and thunderstorms are also forecast from Texas eastward into Florida as copious amounts of moisture stream in. Some flooding concerns are possible especially where thunderstorms are slow-moving or track over the same area. Temperature-wise, an upper-level ridge will cause hot temperatures to continue over portions of the Southwest, where Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are in effect. The Pacific Northwest is also expecting above average temperatures, and some record high minimum temperatures could be set or tied in these areas.
