Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 335 AM EDT Tue Aug 06 2019 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 06 2019 - 12Z Thu Aug 08 2019 ...Severe thunderstorms possible from portions of the Northern Plains to the Upper Midwest... ...Locally heavy to excessive rainfall possible across South Florida and parts of the Southwest... ...Much above normal temperatures likely across portions of the Northwest... An initial cold front moving through the Midwest tonight will continue into the Ohio Valley on Tuesday and eventually the Northeast on Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to accompany this front as it progresses through these regions with just mainly localized chances for severe weather and flash flooding. Behind this, a reinforcing cold front dropping into the Northern Tier will bring another round of potentially strong to severe storms to the Northern Plains on Tuesday, moving into the Upper Midwest states on Wednesday. SPC shows slight risks on its days 1 and 2 outlooks across these regions. WPC also highlights a slight risk for flash flooding across portions of the Central Plains on Wednesday along a stationary front. Unsettled weather continues across parts of Florida and the Gulf Coast on Tuesday as abundant moisture streaming into the region combines with summertime heating. There is the potential for some storms to produce locally heavy rainfall, resulting in flash flood concerns, especially across South Florida which has already seen a couple of days of heavy rainfall. The strong ridge across the Southwest should slide eastward today bringing slightly cooler temperatures to that region at least compared to the excessive heat the past couple of days. Monsoonal moisture will continue to result in daily storm chances across the Southwest into the Rockies as well, with locally heavy rainfall possible. Meanwhile, upper ridging building into the Northwest will result in much above normal temperatures, with heat advisories in effect Tuesday and Wednesday across inland portions of Washington for daytime highs in the upper 90s to near 100.
