Dangerous heat will continue to dominate a large portion of the nation from the Southern Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast. High temperatures in the upper 90s and low 100s will be common Monday-Tuesday across the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley and Monday into Wednesday over the Southeast. Relief from the heat is on tap beginning Wednesday across the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley as a cold front presses southeastward across these areas. This front will bring relief to the Southeast by Thursday. The combination of the high temperatures and high levels of humidity will result in dangerous heat indices across these regions with much of these areas under heat advisories and excessive heat warnings. The front bringing the relief to the heat wave will also be responsible for heavy rain, flash flooding and a severe weather threat from the Lower Great Lakes, across the Mid-Atlantic and into the Southeast as it moves southeastward over the next 2 days. While the heat will eventually be breaking from the south central to southeast U.S. this week, it will building across the Southwest on Tuesday. An Excessive heat watch is in effect for the Desert Southwest for afternoon high temperatures of 105 to 115 and overnight lows only in the middle 80s. The hot temperatures across the Southwest are expected to continue through the remainder of this week. Oravec Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
