Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Tue Aug 13 2019 Valid 00Z Wed Aug 14 2019 - 00Z Fri Aug 16 2019 ...Strong to severe thunderstorms likely over the central High Plains for the next couple of days... ...Unsettled weather expected to linger across much of the eastern U.S.... A general west to east upper-level flow is expected to prevail across the U.S. for the next few days. This will keep temperatures generally below normal across the Northern Tier states while above normal temperatures will continue across much of the South, Southeast, as well the western U.S. A couple of frontal boundaries separating the cool air in the north and the warm air in the south will remain the foci for showers and thunderstorms from the central Plains eastward to the East Coast. The central High Plains will appear to have the best chance of seeing strong to severe thunderstorms for the next couple of days, together with a chance of flash flooding through tonight. The frontal boundaries are expected to move very slowly during the next couple of days as they merge over the eastern U.S. This pattern will promote unsettled weather along the Eastern Seaboard. A weak upper-level disturbance slowly moving southeastward across the Ohio Valley will also help keeping a low pressure wave in the vicinity of the Mid-Atlantic through Thursday. A good chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist from the Mid-Atlantic to the Southeast while gradual improvement in the weather is expected for the Ohio and Tennessee Valley. Generally fine weather can be expected in much of New England after the rain over southern New England slowly moves off the coast through tonight. Much of the western U.S. will continue to be hot and dry through the next few days, with excessive heat possible over the interior valleys of central California by Thursday.
