A summery weather pattern is expected to continue for the next couple of days as above normal temperatures are forecast for much of the U.S. In fact, excessive heat warnings are scheduled to take into effect for much of the Desert Southwest Tuesday and Wednesday, as afternoon high temperatures are forecast to soar into the record-setting 110's on Wednesday. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are also in effect for a large area across the mid-section of the country. In addition, a heat wave will continue from the Mid-Atlantic into New England as well. North of the heat and humidity, some cooler air from Canada is spreading south and eastward into the northern Plains. Showers and thunderstorms will be the focus along a slow-moving frontal boundary across the central Plains toward the Midwest for the next couple of days. Some of these thunderstorms are expected to become severe. Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible through this evening over parts of the Northeast. Along the Gulf Coast into the southeastern U.S., lingering showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Wednesday, where some heavy downpours are possible. By contrast, low humidities and gusty winds are expected to create elevated fire weather conditions for much of Wyoming. Elsewhere, dry conditions will prevail for the rest the western U.S. through Wednesday. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
