Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 249 AM EDT Sat Aug 24 2019 Valid 12Z Sat Aug 24 2019 - 12Z Mon Aug 26 2019 ...There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Central/Southern Plains and along the Central Gulf Coast... ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central/Southern Plains... ...Low pressure just off the southeast Florida coast may develop into a tropical depression this weekend... A surface frontal stretching from the Southern Mid-Atlantic into the Tennessee Valley, Lower Mississippi Valley and across portions of the Southern to Central Plains will become quasi-stationary on Saturday into Monday. In addition, the boundary will be the focus for heavy rains and isolated flash flooding on Saturday into Monday. Tropical moisture along and to the south of this front will remain above average through Monday, fueling the potential for the heavy rains and isolated flash flooding. High temperatures from the Rockies westward will be slightly above average and below average highs roughly east of the Rockies. In addition to the above average temperatures forecast across the Great Basin, dry conditions will also support an elevated risk of fire weather across this area. Additionally, an area of low pressure just off the Southeast coast of Florida has the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression this weekend. The track of this low will bring the potential for locally heavy rains across southern and central Florida and the Bahamas. See the latest NHC discussions for additional information on this area of low pressure. Ziegenfelder Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
