Well above-average to record-breaking temperatures are expected across the South Rockies into the Southern Plains. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are in effect for Monday across a large portion of southeastern New Mexico and western Texas, where daytime temperatures are forecast to climb well into the 100s. Upper-level energy and a plume tropical moisture extending from the Central Gulf Coast northward into the Western Ohio Valley will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over the area on Monday. Heavy rain associated with the thunderstorms will resulting in localized flash flooding. In addition, a front moving across the Middle Mississippi Valley into parts of the Southern Plains will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storm will become severe. Overnight Monday a front will move eastward from the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley into the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley producing showers and thunderstorms over the area. By Tuesday afternoon, the showers and thunderstorms will extend into parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains into parts of the Great Lakes. By Wednesday morning, showers and thunderstorms will move into the Lower Great Lakes, Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Southern Plains.
