Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 342 PM EDT Mon Aug 26 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 27 2019 - 00Z Thu Aug 29 2019 ...Heavy rain and severe weather possible this evening into tonight across the Middle Mississippi Valley into the Central and Southern Plains... ...Above average temperatures expected across the West, while the Plains and Midwest will be cooler than average... Thunderstorms forming out ahead of a cold front in the Mississippi Valley and Plains will spark thunderstorms that could be severe and may produce heavy rainfall. A warm and humid air mass will provide the fuel for the strong storms and heavy rainfall. In the wake of the cold front, temperatures are expected to run 10 to 20 degrees below average. In the Northern Plains, locations could struggle to get into the 60s! There is less of a concern for severe weather and flash flooding tomorrow as the front progresses to the south and east. Meanwhile, the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will continue to enjoy below average to nearly seasonal temperatures thanks to an area of high pressure over New England. An upper-level ridge of high pressure over the Southwest will allow temperatures to soar across the western third of the country. Temperatures in the Pacific Northwest could run about 15 to 20 degrees above average. A handful of cities will challenge daily record high temperatures as the mercury approaches 100F.
