An upper-level high and associated ridging will be persistent from the Southern Plains to the West Coast through Thursday. Heat Advisories are up over parts of Texas and Excessive Heat Warnings are also up for parts of the Desert Southwest and on up into northern California and Oregon. Red Flag Warnings are in effect over parts of Oregon, too. Temperatures in the Pacific Northwest could run about 15 to 20 degrees above average. A handful of cities will challenge daily record high temperatures as the mercury approaches 100F. A front extending from the Upper Great Lakes to the Lower Mississippi Valley then westward across the Southern Plains will advance eastward to the East Coast by Wednesday evening into Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the front from the Great Lakes to the Southern Plains that will likewise move to the East Coast by Wednesday evening into Thursday. A second front will move into parts of the Northern Rockies/Northern High Plains from Western Canada late Wednesday night into Thursday.
