Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 324 PM EDT Thu Aug 29 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 30 2019 - 00Z Sun Sep 01 2019 ...Hurricane Dorian continues to threaten the northern Bahamas and Florida by the end of the weekend... ...Heavy to excessive rainfall possible from portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley into the Central Plains... ...Excessive heat continues across the Southwest, with fire weather a threat for portions of the interior West as well... As per the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian is forecast to track north of the Bahamas this weekend and towards Florida. It is too soon to determine exact locations for impacts, but there continues to be an increasing threat for dangerous storm surge, hurricane force winds, and heavy rainfall for the northern Bahamas and the east coast of Florida by the end of the weekend. Please refer to NHC for the latest on Dorian. A stationary front draped from the Middle Mississippi Valley through the Central Plains will be a focus for heavy rainfall through Saturday as a series of thunderstorm complexes move through the region. Multi-day rainfall totals of 1 to 3+ inches is possible across eastern portions of Kansas and Oklahoma and into central Missouri and WPC highlights this region within slight risks for flash flooding/excessive rainfall the next couple of days. Elsewhere, tropical moisture over Florida and the Southeast in advance of Dorian will bring daily chances for showers and thunderstorms into the weekend with locally heavy rainfall possible, especially for southern Florida. Upper level ridging should remain anchored over the Southern Plains to much of the West through the short range period. Much above normal temperatures are expected across this region, and excessive heat warnings are in effect for lower elevations of the Southwest as daytime highs there could be in the lower 110s. The dry heat combined with gusty winds will also increase the fire weather threat, with red flag warnings posted for parts of Oregon as well as the central Great Basin. Meanwhile, much below normal temperatures will spread from the northern Plains to the Central Plains and the Midwest into the weekend on the backside of a cold front.
