It is expected that Hurricane Dorian will continue to strengthen as it tracks farther east through the weekend. The latest forecast shows Dorian moving into the northern Bahamas as a major hurricane late Sunday. While its track for early next week remains uncertain, tropical-storm-force winds will become increasingly likely along the southeastern Florida coast Sunday night. Please refer to the National Hurricane Center for the latest on Dorian. Ongoing showers and thunderstorms over the mid Mississippi valley are expected to move farther east Friday evening along a stationary front extending across the Ohio valley. Meanwhile, expect scattered storms to develop along the High Plains from eastern Wyoming to eastern New Mexico Friday afternoon, with storms moving farther east across the Plains during evening hours. Expect additional scattered storms on Saturday from the southern High Plains eastward to the Ohio valley. Drier weather is forecast across the central and southern Plains on Sunday, as showers and storms shift farther northeast from the Ohio valley into the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Above-normal temperatures will persist across much of the western U.S. through the weekend. Excessive heat warnings remain in effect across portions of the Southwest, including the Las Vegas and Phoenix metro areas into Saturday where daytime highs are expected to climb well into the 100s once again.
