Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 312 AM EDT Thu Sep 05 2019 Valid 12Z Thu Sep 05 2019 - 12Z Sat Sep 07 2019 ...Life-threatening storm surge, dangerous winds and heavy rainfall expected in coastal Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina as Hurricane Dorian continues to track northeast... ...Record high temperatures expected along the Gulf Coast by Friday... ...Scattered monsoonal thunderstorms expected across the West over the next couple days... Hurricane Dorian is expected to continue its track along the Southeast Atlantic coast, moving from just offshore of South Carolina this morning to the North Carolina Outer Banks by early Friday. Dorian will remain a dangerous storm, with life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds along the coastline from Georgia into the Carolinas, southeast Virginia and southern Chesapeake Bay. Flash flooding will become increasing likely today and tonight near the path of Dorian. There is a high risk of flash flooding over coastal sections of the Carolinas, where significant life-threatening flash flooding is expected Thursday into early Friday. As the storm moves farther to the north, wind and rain may also affect coastal portions of the Northeast. Refer to the National Hurricane Center for the latest information regarding Dorian. Elsewhere, temperatures should generally be warmer than average across the southern half of the country, while several fronts will push gradually cooler air into the northern tier of states, Great Lakes, and Northeast by this weekend. Record highs with some triple digit readings are possible on Friday along much of the Gulf Coast. Across the western states, a northward push of monsoonal moisture should bring a better chance of showers and thunderstorms today and Friday in the interior Northwest, Great Basin, Rockies and Desert Southwest.
