Hurricane Dorian is forecast to move northeastward away from the Carolinas. The impacts of Dorian will subside over portions of eastern North Carolina and southeast Virginia, including storm surge, high winds, and flash flooding. Impacts across these areas will wind down Friday evening as the hurricane moves away from the region. Dorian is forecast to move close enough to Cape Cod and the Massachusetts Islands to bring a period of heavy rain and tropical storm force winds late Friday into Saturday. Farther west, an upper-level disturbance expected to move from the northern Great Basin across the northern Rockies and into the Northern Plains Friday evening and Saturday is expected to focus areas of showers and thunderstorms. Areas of heavy rainfall are possible across the Northern Plains by Friday night into Saturday. Meanwhile, an upper-level ridge of high pressure across the south central U.S. will result in well above average temperatures through Sunday from portions of the Southern Plains east across the Gulf Coast states. Many locations may reach or surpass 100 degrees by Saturday, potentially breaking a number of record high temperatures.
