Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 319 AM EDT Sat Sep 07 2019 Valid 12Z Sat Sep 07 2019 - 12Z Mon Sep 09 2019 ...Heavy rainfall and tropical storm force winds will come to an end across New England this morning as Dorian races northward into the Canadian Maritimes... ...Potentially record breaking heat continues this weekend for parts of the Deep South and Gulf Coast... ...Severe weather and flash flooding possible across parts of the north-central Plains into the Midwest... Effects in the U.S. from Dorian are finally beginning to wind down tonight, though heavy rainfall and tropical storm force winds may linger across far eastern Maine into Saturday. Dorian is forecast to lift away from the Northeast coast today, but will be a threat to parts of the Canadian Maritimes this weekend with dangerous storm surge, hurricane force winds, and heavy rainfall. Please refer to the National Hurricane Center for the latest on Dorian. Upper level ridging anchored over the Southern tier of the U.S. will continue to result in heat and humidity across much of the Deep South and Gulf Coast. Heat advisories are in effect for portions of this area, where daytime highs near or surpassing 100 degrees are possible this weekend, potentially breaking a number of record high temperatures. A surface low pressure system dropping into the Central Plains today will bring showers and thunderstorms from the north-central Plains to the Midwest this weekend. Storms may be capable of producing severe weather and heavy to excessive rainfall, with both SPC and WPC advertising slight risks for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding, respectively. Unsettled weather will also increase across the Western U.S. this weekend as several impulses move through aloft. Another surface low pressure system is forecast to take shape across the Central Rockies late Sunday into Monday, and will likely serve as a focus for another round of locally heavy rainfall into the Plains and Midwest by the end of the weekend.
