Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EDT Sat Sep 7 2019 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 8 2019 - 00Z Tue Sep 10 2019 ...Potentially record breaking heat continues this weekend for parts of the Deep South and Gulf Coast region... ...Severe weather and flash flooding possible across parts of the north-central Plains into the Midwest... Now that Hurricane Dorian has moved well away from the U.S., attention now turns to less impactful yet noteworthy weather across the nation. Upper level ridging anchored over the Southern tier of the U.S. will continue to result in very hot conditions for the Deep South and Gulf Coast, with the potential for some record highs to be set through Monday. Heat advisories are in effect from eastern Texas to the Florida Panhandle, with some highs surpassing the century mark during peak afternoon heating. Across the central U.S., a surface low along a frontal boundary will likely produce showers and thunderstorms from the north-central Plains to the Midwest this weekend. Episodes of severe weather and heavy to excessive rainfall will be possible, and this is something that the Storm Prediction Center and the Weather Prediction Center are monitoring. Unsettled weather will also increase across the Western U.S. this weekend as multiple shortwave disturbances pass through the region. Another surface low pressure system is forecast to take shape across the Central Rockies late Sunday into Monday, and will likely serve as a focus for another round of locally heavy rainfall into the Plains and Midwest by the end of the weekend and into Monday.
