Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 316 AM EDT Mon Sep 09 2019 Valid 12Z Mon Sep 09 2019 - 12Z Wed Sep 11 2019 ...Severe weather and flash flooding possible across parts of the north-central Plains into the Upper Midwest... ...Much above normal temperatures likely for much of the Midwest to the Southeast... Widespread showers and thunderstorms are possible on Monday to the north and east of a surface low moving towards the Upper Great Lakes by Tuesday. Locally heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are possible, especially along the attendant warm front as it lifts through the Upper Midwest today. On Tuesday, part of the cold front should stall across the Northern Plains, providing a focus for additional heavy rainfall and locally severe weather. Much above normal temperatures from the southern Plains to the Midwest and Southeast will continue early this week, with daytime highs well into the 90s expected for some which could approach or break a few daily high temperature records. Increased humidity levels will also combine with these temperatures to produce heat indices above 100 degrees, especially in parts of the Southeast where heat advisories are currently in effect. Above normal temperatures should also extend into the Upper Great Lakes and Northeast by the middle of the week. Elsewhere across the country, the West should remain unsettled and cool underneath broad upper level troughing, with a couple of days of scattered storms possible across parts of the Southern High Plains as well. Red Flag warnings are also in effect across parts of the southern Great Basin where dry and windy conditions may combine to produce an elevated fire weather threat.
