Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 234 AM EDT Thu Sep 12 2019 Valid 12Z Thu Sep 12 2019 - 12Z Sat Sep 14 2019 ...Heavy rainfall and severe weather likely to accompany a storm system lifting through the north-central U.S. on Thursday... ...Much below normal temperatures expected across the Northern Plains, with record highs possible across the Deep South... Showers and thunderstorms will accompany a strong storm system as it lifts through the north-central U.S. Thursday into Friday. The best threat for heavy rainfall will be north and east of the low from parts of the Northern Plains to the Upper Midwest. With recent wet weather and already saturated soils across parts of this region, this may increase the flood/flash flood threat. Severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall are also likely along the attendant cold front as it pushes into the Middle Mississippi Valley and Midwest states today. By Friday, the low lifts into south-central Canada, though showers and thunderstorms may continue into the Great Lakes as the cold front passes through. The above mentioned system will usher in a much cooler airmass to the Northern Plains, with daytime highs on Thursday as much as 10 to 20 degrees below normal. Ahead of it though, it should remain very warm from the Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic with daytime temperatures in the mid-80s to mid-90s. These kinds of temperatures could approach or break daily high temperature records for some, especially from the central Gulf Coast through the Southern Appalachians Thursday and Friday. Meanwhile, much of the West should be in a warming trend as upper level ridging builds aloft. Elsewhere, showers and thunderstorms will accompany a cold front as it drops through the Northeast on Thursday, as well as another one moving into the Pacific Northwest. In Florida, an approaching tropical disturbance may bring an increased chance for rain by the weekend. Santorelli Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
