A strong area of low pressure over the Northern Plain/Upper Mississippi Valley will move northeastward to near James Bay by Saturday. The associated front will produce showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the boundary that will move eastward to Central Appalachians/Tennessee Valley by Saturday. The thunderstorms may become severe with the major hazards threat of frequent lightning, hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes over parts of the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley southeastward into parts of the Southern Plains. Heavy rainfall associated with these storms will aid in producing localized scattered flash flooding over parts of the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley into parts of the Western Ohio Valley through Friday morning. In addition along the eastern end of the front, showers and thunderstorms will develop with some becoming severe. The major hazards threat of frequent lightning and damaging winds will be associated with these storms. Meanwhile, a front moving onshore over the Northwest Coast will move eastward to the Northern Plains by Saturday evening. The system will produce rain with embedded thunderstorms over parts of the Pacific Northwest through late Thursday evening. Rain will continue to move inland to the Northern High plains by Friday evening then moving to the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley producing showers and thunderstorms by Saturday evening. Additionally, upper-level ridging will aid in producing hot high temperatures over parts of California into the Great Basin and over parts of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and Mid-Atlantic through Saturday. Heat Advisories are up over parts of Central California. There is also a possibility of record breaking high temperatures over parts of the Southeast/Tennessee Valley and parts of the Mid-Atlantic.
