Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 337 AM EDT Fri Sep 13 2019 Valid 12Z Fri Sep 13 2019 - 12Z Sun Sep 15 2019 ...Tropical disturbance near the Bahamas is becoming better organized... ...Showers and storms for the Great Lakes and parts of the southern Plains... The tropics are becoming active again with the development of potential tropical cyclone Nine near the Bahamas. This storm is forecast to slowly become better organized and intensify into a tropical storm over the next couple of days as it slowly approaches Florida. This will likely result in increased rainfall across the eastern half of the Florida Peninsula by this weekend, along with gusty winds and increased surf at the coast. The National Hurricane Center has additional information pertaining to this storm system. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., a backdoor cold front dropping southward across the Mid-Atlantic region will bring temporary relief to the unseasonably hot temperatures recently. Cool northeasterly flow will keep readings in the 60s and 70s from Virginia to New England under mostly cloudy skies. Farther to the west across the Great Lakes region, an intensifying surface low will continue lifting northward towards Quebec this weekend, and will likely produce a band of heavy showers and thunderstorms from Ohio to eastern Michigan on Friday, with a slight risk of severe weather based on the latest Storm Prediction Center outlook. Another area of enhanced rain will be possible across parts of the southern Plains near a decaying stationary front. With the exception of western Washington state, areas from the West Coast to the northern Plains are expected to remain mostly dry with sunny to partly cloudy skies. D.
