Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 328 AM EDT Sun Sep 15 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Sep 15 2019 - 12Z Tue Sep 17 2019 ...Warm across much of the nation with scattered areas of heavy rainfall, and Tropical Storm Humberto expected to remain well offshore... The overall weather pattern across the continental U.S. will be more like the middle of summer instead of mid-September. There will be a broad upper level ridge encompassing much of the central and southern U.S., resulting in temperatures on the order of 10 to 20 degrees above average from the High Plains to the Southeast U.S. An upper level trough building in across the Pacific Northwest will usher in more fall-like temperatures from northern California to Washington state, along with a round of steady rainfall near the Cascades and coastal mountain ranges. Readings near to slightly below average are likely for New England as this region should remain north of the frontal boundary. Rainfall will be on the increase across the southern Rockies in association with a surge of monsoonal moisture, and the potential exists for areas of excessive rainfall across parts of eastern Arizona and western New Mexico. An axis of moderate rainfall is likely across portions of the western Great Lakes region on Sunday in association with a wave of low pressure on the front. Farther south across southern Texas, enhanced onshore flow combined with an approaching upper level low will support a greater coverage of showers and storms by Monday. Recent trends with Tropical Storm Humberto remaining farther away from the Southeast U.S. coast equates to less impactful weather affecting this region, with the vast majority of the heavy rain and gusty winds remaining well offshore. The main issue will be increased waves at the coast that may lead to some beach erosion. The National Hurricane Center has additional information regarding Humberto. D.
