Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 413 AM EDT Mon Sep 16 2019 Valid 12Z Mon Sep 16 2019 - 12Z Wed Sep 18 2019 ...Warm across much of the nation with scattered areas of heavy rainfall... ...Offshore Hurricane Humberto leading to a rip current risk along the Southeast U.S. coast... The overall weather pattern across the continental U.S. will be more like August instead of mid-September for the beginning of the week. There will be a broad upper level ridge encompassing much of the central and southern U.S., resulting in temperatures on the order of 5 to 20 degrees above average from the High Plains to the Southeast U.S. An upper level trough building in across the Pacific Northwest will usher in more fall-like temperatures from northern California to Washington state. For the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, temperatures should return to near average levels or slightly below as a Canadian surface high builds in across this region Rainfall will be on the increase across the Pacific Northwest through Tuesday as a second storm system approaches the region from the Gulf of Alaska. Parts of western Washington and Oregon could get 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with this system. Farther south across southern Texas, enhanced onshore flow combined with an approaching disturbance from the northern Gulf of Mexico will support a greater coverage of showers and storms by Monday. Hurricane Humberto will continue to track well away from the Southeast U.S. as it intensifies, with the main issue being rip currents along the length of the Southeast United States coast and increased wave action that may lead to some beach erosion. The National Hurricane Center has additional information regarding Humberto. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
