Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 251 PM EDT Wed Sep 18 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Sep 19 2019 - 00Z Sat Sep 21 2019 ...Tropical Depression Imelda to move very slowly, bringing heavy rains and significant to life threatening flash flooding across portions of Eastern Texas into western Louisiana... ...Below average temperatures expected across much of the West, while above average temperatures expected from the Plains into the Midwest and Great Lakes... ...A Frost and Freeze likely across portions of Northern New York State into Northern New England Thursday morning... Very slow movement expected over the next few days to Tropical Depression Imelda across Eastern Texas. This will support very heavy rainfall potential for portions of eastern Texas into western Louisiana. Additional rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches are expected across eastern Texas into western Louisiana, with isolated storm totals as high as 20 to 25 inches. These heavy rains will likely produce significant to life threatening flash flooding across eastern Texas into western Louisiana. A strong mid to upper level trough moving from the Pacific Northwest, through the Great Basin and into the Rockies will support a large region of below average temperatures to much of the Western U.S. Thursday and Friday. High temperature anomalies are expected to be as much as 10 to 20 degrees below average across the Great Basin into portions of the Northern Rockies. In contrast to the colder than average temperatures across the West, much above average temperatures expected to persist Thursday and Friday across the Plains, Mid West and Great Lakes. These much above average temperatures will spread into the Northeast and New England on Friday. Before the much above average temperatures spread into New England on Friday, a frost and freeze likely across portions of northern New York State into Northern New England Thursday morning where clear skies and calm winds will allow morning temperatures to drop into the low to mid 30s.
