Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 PM EDT Wed Oct 02 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Oct 03 2019 - 00Z Sat Oct 05 2019 ...There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall this evening and overnight for parts of the Southern Plains northeastward to the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley... ...Below average temperatures are expected over parts of the Northern/Central Plains into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast... A strong cold front slicing through the center of the country will continue to march southeastward for the latter half of the work week. Locations behind the front in the Great Lakes are seeing temperatures that are up to 30 degrees colder than at this time yesterday. Ahead of the front, exceptionally warm air is breaking dozens of daily high temperature records all across the Southern Plains, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and southern New England. This frontal boundary will spark heavy rain and thunderstorms across the Plains and into the Midwest and lower Great Lakes. Heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding is possible in this corridor, highlighted by a Slight Risk on WPC's Excessive Rainfall Outlook. Meanwhile, gusty winds and low humidity has lead to critical fire weather across Western-Central Colorado today. An elevated fire weather threat will exist Thursday across parts of Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect across portions of Southeast Montana and Southwest South Dakota, where generally 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected through late tonight. Temperature behind the front in the Eastern US will be 10 to 25 degrees below average over parts of the Northern/Central Plains. Temperatures will moderate a bit on Thursday, but will still remain around 10 degrees below average. Once the front passes the Mid-Atlantic, is will feel more fall-like, with temperatures expected to be near to slightly below average. Meanwhile, the Southeast will not see much relief from the heat with the passing of this cold front. Nettesheim Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
