Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 AM EDT Sun Oct 6 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Oct 6 2019 - 12Z Tue Oct 8 2019 ...Fall weather becoming well established across much of the nation... Upper level troughing and a strong shortwave disturbance crossing the northern Great Lakes on Sunday will support the passage of a cold front across the eastern U.S. through Monday. This front will bring in another cool and autumnal airmass across much of the central U.S. and this boundary should eventually reach farther south than the last cold front late last week. A swath of moderate to locally heavy rain is likely to develop on Sunday from Arkansas to the central Appalachians as the front intercepts deeper moisture. This moisture should then reach the Northeast U.S. on Monday with rainfall amounts approaching an inch across parts of New England. There may be some strong thunderstorms across portions of the southern Plains and Tennessee Valley as the front crosses this region. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., locally heavy rain will be possible across western Washington and northwest Oregon on Monday as the next Pacific storm system approaches the region. Dry and breezy conditions across northern California may increase wildfire concerns. Otherwise, a dry and relatively uneventful weather pattern is expected from California to the Midwest states.
