Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 339 AM EDT Mon Oct 7 2019 Valid 12Z Mon Oct 7 2019 - 12Z Wed Oct 9 2019 ...Big changes in the weather coming to much of the northern tier of the nation while remaining relatively uneventful across the Plains... A rather significant pattern change is coming across much of the nation early this week as a pronounced upper level trough drops southward across the northwestern U.S. from Canada. This will result in a strong cold front crossing the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, and then the northern Plains by Tuesday night. Temperatures will turn much colder and well below normal behind the front, and snow is likely across much of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming beginning on Tuesday and lasting into Wednesday where winter storm watches are in effect. Snow is also expected for the Cascades as the colder airmass filters southward across the region. For the eastern U.S., warmer and more humid conditions are expected for the East Coast states under mostly cloudy skies ahead of a cold front. An enhanced corridor of showers and some thunderstorms is likely across the Appalachians and extending northeastward to New England, but should decrease in coverage closer to the coast where drought conditions have been developing. Patchy areas of heavy showers and storms are also likely for the Florida Peninsula. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., sunny to partly cloudy conditions are expected for the southwestern U.S. and also across the Plains and Midwest states as a large surface high governs the weather pattern.
