Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 343 PM EDT Mon Oct 07 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 08 2019 - 00Z Thu Oct 10 2019 ...Heavy snow, high winds, and below average temperatures to impact the northwestern U.S. this week... ...A coastal storm could bring scattered showers and gusty winds to portions of the Northeast by Wednesday... A strong cold front currently located across western Canada will enter the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies tonight into Tuesday morning. This front is forecast to bring temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below average by Wednesday across these areas. With the cold temperatures rushing in, heavy snow will be likely over portions of the Northern Rockies. Winter Storm Warnings and Watches have been issued here, where over a foot of snow is possible. Rain is expected to change to snow across portions of the Central Rockies and Northern Plains by Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, high winds ahead of the system have led to critical fire weather across portions of the Central Rockies and High Plains today and Tuesday. Red Flag Warnings are in effect. For the eastern U.S., cloudy skies and scattered showers are accompanying a slow moving cold front. These showers are expected to linger across Florida as the front stalls throughout this week. Coastal sections of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic will also see continued showers as an area of low pressure develops off the coast Tuesday and Wednesday.
