Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 AM EDT Tue Oct 22 2019 Valid 12Z Tue Oct 22 2019 - 12Z Thu Oct 24 2019 ...Strong storm system exiting the Upper Midwest on Tuesday with cold front crossing the East Coast region... A strong low pressure system currently near Lake Superior will continue lifting northeastward over Ontario through mid-week. Although most of the rain has abated across the Upper Midwest, winds will continue to be an issue from the eastern Dakotas to the greater Chicago metro area through Tuesday owing to the tight pressure gradient in place. High Wind warnings are in effect Tuesday morning across portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and eastern South Dakota where winds may gust in excess of 55 mph at times. These winds should abate some by afternoon as the storm moves out of the region. Numerous showers and some thunderstorms are expected across the East Coast region on Tuesday along and ahead of the cold front. There will be enough instability ahead of the front across parts of the eastern Carolinas to support the development of some strong to severe thunderstorms. Given the progressive nature of the storm, the flash flood threat appears to be limited at this time. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., valley rain and mountain snow is expected across the Cascades and the northern Rockies on Tuesday, and then the central Rockies on Wednesday. Sunny to partly cloudy conditions are expected to continue from California to Texas, with below normal temperatures across the Rockies and Plains, and slightly above normal for California.
