Tropical Depression SEVENTEEN is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone by Friday evening. The system will move northward to the Great Lakes by Sunday. The system will produce showers and thunderstorm over the Central Gulf Coast through Saturday morning. Some of these thunderstorm will become severe with the major hazards of frequent lightening, damaging winds, and tornadoes. Heavy rain will accompany these thunderstorms producing areas of scattered flash flooding that will be mainly localized. As the system moves northward, rain will develop over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys on Saturday that will move northward into parts of the Great Lakes and the Northern Mid-Atlantic by Saturday evening. The rain will begin to move off the Northeast Coast by Sunday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will continue along the Central/Eastern Gulf Coast on Saturday moving into parts of the Southeast by Saturday evening. The showers and thunderstorms will move into parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic overnight Saturday. by Sunday evening, the showers and thunderstorms will linger along the Southeast Coast through. A strong front over parts of the Northwest into the Northern Rockies will move eastward to the Upper Great Lakes southwestward to the Southern Plains and southward to the Southern High Plains westward into parts of Central California by Sunday. The system will produce snow over parts of the Northern Rockies moving into parts of the Northern High Plains by Saturday morning. By Sunday the snow will expand into the Central Rockies. The snow will be heavy at times. behind the front, cold high pressure will move into the interior Northwest into the Northern High Plains moving into the Central High Plains by Sunday evening. Meanwhile, an expansive high pressure system in the Western U.S. will continue to promote favorable conditions for the spreading of wildfires from Northern California into Southern California through Saturday. The greater threat today is expected to exist across the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges surrounding the Los Angeles and San Diego metropolitan regions with a combination of gusty winds and low relative humidities.
