Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 303 AM EST Fri Nov 08 2019 Valid 12Z Fri Nov 08 2019 - 12Z Sun Nov 10 2019 ...Cold conditions expected to continue across much of the eastern two-thirds of the nation... ...The next surge of arctic air will bring the next round of snow into the High Plains on Saturday... ...Lake-enhanced snowfall expected to persist over the Great Lakes... A expansive area of high pressure behind a sharp cold front will dominate much of the eastern two-thirds of the country for the next couple of days. Temperatures as much as 25 degrees below normal will spread as far south as southern Texas today before moderating somewhat on Saturday. Daytime temperatures are forecast to be cold enough today over the Northeast that daily record cold high temperatures will be observed at many locations. A broad upper-level trough will continue to send periodic surges of arctic air from Canada into the U.S. The next surge of arctic air is expected to reach the northern High Plains early on Saturday. Snow is expected to develop across the area, spreading southward toward the northern Rockies Saturday evening near and behind an arctic cold front. Meanwhile, snowfall is expected to persist over the Great Lakes today under the current cold air mass, and will continue into Saturday as moisture from a developing low pressure wave approaches from the northern Plains. Meanwhile, rainfall behind the sharp cold front will gradually taper off today across the Southeast and southern Texas. Florida will see the scattered rain lingering into Saturday. In contrast, dry and warmer than normal conditions will continue across most of the western U.S. and extending eastward to the central Plains. Fire danger remains elevated across portions of southern California where winds are still on the gusty side. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
