Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 PM EST Fri Nov 15 2019 Valid 00Z Sat Nov 16 2019 - 00Z Mon Nov 18 2019 ...Coastal storm to bring heavy rains, high winds, and high surf to much of the Outer Banks this weekend... ...Below normal temperatures continue from the Ohio Valley to the Eastern Seaboard... ...Rain and snow showers will accompany a front as it moves from the Northern Rockies to the Upper Mississippi Valley... The big story for the short range period is with a developing surface low off the Southeast coast, expected to intensify as it moves slowly northward this weekend. Moderate to heavy rainfall and strong winds will focus across mainly the Outer Banks of North Carolina, with flash flooding possible. High waves and coastal flooding will also be a threat with this system through the weekend before it finally begins lifting away from the coast late Sunday. The weather should be relatively quiet across the remainder of the country this weekend. High pressure in the wake of the coastal system will settle in across the Eastern U.S. keeping temperatures near to below normal. Daytime highs could be 10 to 20 degrees below normal, mainly across portions of the Ohio Valley and along much of the Eastern Seaboard. Meanwhile, the West will be above normal underneath of persistent upper level ridging. Weak disturbances rounding the top of the ridge may bring snow to the higher elevations in the Northwest. In between, a front crossing the north-central U.S. will bring periods of scattered rain and snow showers from the northern Rockies/Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley. Light snow accumulations are possible across parts of northern Wisconsin and northeast Minnesota. Santorelli Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
