Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 259 AM EST Sat Nov 16 2019 Valid 12Z Sat Nov 16 2019 - 12Z Mon Nov 18 2019 ...Coastal storm to bring heavy rains, high winds, and high surf to much of the Outer Banks this weekend... ...Below normal temperatures continue from the Ohio Valley to the Eastern Seaboard... ...Rain and snow showers will accompany a front as it moves from the Northern Rockies to the Upper Mississippi Valley... A developing surface low off the Southeast Coast will deepen and lift northward over the next couple of days. Moderate to heavy rain along with strong winds is expected to impact the Outer Banks. Very localized flash flooding may be possible, although the majority of the rainfall will occur offshore. High waves and coastal flooding will also pose a threat with this system through the weekend before it finally begins lifting away from the coast late Sunday. High pressure moving into the eastern U.S. as the coastal systems departs will allow cooler air to settle into the region. Afternoon highs may be 10 to 20 degrees below seasonal average this weekend, especially for portions of the Ohio Valley and along the East Coast. A vast portion of the West will continue to have above average temperatures thanks to ridging. Multiple disturbances rounding the top of this ridge will bring moisture onshore the Pacific Northwest Coast and spreading snow to areas of higher terrain. Periods of scattered rain and snow showers can be expected from the Northern Rockies, High Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley. Light snow accumulations are possible across parts of northern Wisconsin and northeast Minnesota. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
