Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EST Sun Nov 17 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Nov 17 2019 - 12Z Tue Nov 19 2019 ...Powerful coastal storm to produce heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding along the Mid-Atlantic coast... ...Wintry conditions expected across the Upper Great Lakes on Sunday and into the interior Northeast by Monday... ...Cooler than normal temperatures to persist across the eastern U.S., warmer than normal temperatures to engulf the West... Numerous Storm and Gale warnings are in effect along the Eastern Seaboard and surrounding waters as a strengthening coastal storm slowly moves to the northeast. Gusty winds, rain and high surf will impact portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Coastline this weekend and into th beginning of the week. Strong high pressure over New England and the Canadian Maritimes will drive strong winds onshore in conjunction to those from the coastal storm. This will likely result in battering surf, beach erosion, and coastal flooding along the coasts and low lying areas of eastern North Carolina and southeast Virginia, possibly as far north as southern Long Island. Snow showers will be possible across parts of the Upper Great Lakes/Midwest today as a disturbance tracks through the region. Varying temperature may allow for a wintry mix in certain locations, resulting in an increase in hazardous road conditions. Moisture from the coastal storm will transport northward into a region will much cooler air mass. As such, freezing rain/drizzle may spread across parts of the interior Northeast. The eastern states will largely remain cooler than normal for the start of the week. A few daily low temperature records may become tied or established over the next couple of days. Out West, above normal temperatures will persist across the Plains and West Coast. Temperature departures across the Great Basin and much of California will range from 10 to 20 degrees above normal, with a few locations in the Desert Southwest making a run at 90 degrees both Sunday and Monday.
