Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 203 AM EST Sat Nov 23 2019 Valid 12Z Sat Nov 23 2019 - 12Z Mon Nov 25 2019 ...Unsettled weather for the East Coast this weekend, and mainly dry elsewhere... An intensifying surface low situated over the southern Appalachians Saturday morning is forecast to reach eastern New England by Sunday evening in response to an amplifying upper level trough. A swath of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected from Alabama to eastern Maine this weekend, with the greatest rainfall totals over the southern Appalachians and also southern New England. Winds will also increase across much of the Northeast U.S. as the low strengthens just off the coast. Improving conditions should return by Sunday night and into Monday. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., a relatively uneventful weather pattern will be in place with mainly dry conditions from California to the Midwest states. The exceptions to this will be across the Pacific Northwest, where a cold front and onshore flow will generate rain and mountain snow for western Washington and Oregon, and snow showers for the northern Rockies. Temperatures should be near to below average across much of the eastern U.S. this weekend, and above normal readings for the central and northern Plains.
