An intensifying surface low situated over the Southern Appalachians is forecast to reach Eastern New England on Sunday in response to an amplifying upper level trough. A swath of moderate to heavy rain is expected from Southeast to Northern Mid-Atlantic with light snow over parts of the Ohio Valley by Saturday evening. Wind will also increase across much of the Northeast U.S. on Sunday into Monday as the low strengthens just off the coast. Overnight Saturday, rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the interior Northeast as the rain moves into the Northeast and snow moves into parts of the Central Appalachians. Snow will also develop on the northwest side of the precipitation shield on Sunday over parts of the interior Northeast. The rain will move out of the Northeast by Monday morning while the snow showers continue over the interior Northeast. Meanwhile, a front over the Eastern Pacific will move onshore over the Pacific Northwest overnight Saturday moving eastward to the Northern Plains trailing the front back to Northern California by Sunday evening. By Monday the front will meas eastward to the Upper Great Lakes southwestward to the Southern High Plains across the Rockies into the Great Basin. Rain and higher elevation snow will develop over part of the Northwest by Sunday morning continuing into Monday. Snow will develop over parts of the Northern Rockies by Sunday evening expanding into parts of the Northern High Plains/Northern Plains overnight Sunday with light snow continuing over the U. S./Canadian border through Monday evening. Also on Monday, light snow will expand into parts of the Central Rockies and Great Basin. Later in the weak, a strong storm will move into Northern California on Tuesday/Wednesday producing heavy rain and snow.
