Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 259 AM EST Sun Feb 2 2020 Valid 12Z Sun Feb 2 2020 - 12Z Tue Feb 4 2020 ...Winter storm for the Rockies and rain developing across the east-central U.S. by Monday... An intensifying low pressure system over the Intermountain West on Sunday along with a strong cold front will generate widespread snow from the Sierra Nevada to the northern Rockies, where winter storm warnings are in effect. The storm then ejects out over the western High Plains by Monday night with snow developing across the central Rockies and extending eastward across western Nebraska and Kansas. The heaviest snow is expected to fall across the higher terrain of central and western Wyoming with a foot or more of accumulation possible. There will also be strong winds across parts of eastern California, southern Nevada, and northern Arizona where high wind warnings are in effect. Return flow from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of the aforementioned storm system will advect copious moisture northward and lead to the development of scattered showers and some thunderstorms from eastern Texas to the Ohio Valley by Monday night. Most rainfall amounts through Tuesday morning should be under a half inch. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., dry conditions can be expected from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic region, and also most of the Upper Midwest.
