Cold high pressure builds in over the Mississippi Valley eastward to the Northern Mid-Atlantic by Saturday then moves off the Northeast Coast by Sunday. Temperatures will be 10 to 25 degrees below average from the Northeast to the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley. Weak upper-level energy will move across the Great Lakes aiding in produce light lake effect snow down wind from the Great Lakes through Friday evening. Additional upper-level energy will move across the area late Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, followed by a front crossing the Great Lakes overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Light snow will develop over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley early on Saturday morning into the Great Lakes by Saturday afternoon into evening. Meanwhile, upper-level energy and onshore wind with a plume of moisture will move into the Pacific Northwest producing coastal rain and higher elevation snow, with the snow extending into the Northern Rockies. The axis of moisture will move slightly southward on late Saturday afternoon. Coastal rain and higher elevation snow will move into parts of Northern California and parts of the Great Basin with the snow moving into the Central Rockies overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Across Florida, showers and a few thunderstorms will slowly push southward through Saturday near and behind a cold front.
