As moist onshore flow increases from the Pacific Ocean, the Northwest will continue to see precipitation through the weekend. Rain is forecast for lower elevations of the Pacific Northwest and northern California, and in higher elevations, heavy snow can be expected. The snow should begin in the Cascades and move into the Northern Rockies and Wind River Mountains/Tetons on Saturday, and into the Central Rockies by Sunday. Over a foot of snow can be expected in these areas over the weekend. After a bitterly cold Friday morning, temperatures will moderate for the Midwest to Great Lakes Saturday. The colder than average temperatures under the cold high pressure system should shift eastward Saturday morning to the eastern U.S., and the interior Northeast in particular could see low temperatures more than 20 degrees below normal. Meanwhile, the Southwest to Central Great Basin will be warmer than average, and warmth builds across the Southern/Central Plains on Sunday. Elsewhere, light snow is expected to move across the Northern Plains to Midwest through Friday night, across the Great Lakes region Saturday, and into the interior Northeast on Sunday. Rain showers are possible through the weekend in the Florida peninsula as a cold front passes through.
