Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 245 PM EST Fri Mar 06 2020 Valid 00Z Sat Mar 07 2020 - 00Z Mon Mar 09 2020 ...Snow for the Central Appalachians, Lower Great Lakes, and for the Cascades/Sierra Nevada Mountains... Rain and mountain snows are spreading across portions of the Pacific Northwest, Great Basin and California today as a cold front advances through the Interior West. Winter Weather Advisories are sprinkled across the southwest Oregon, along the Sierra Nevada Range and central Idaho. The cold front will continue to progress eastward this weekend with snow becoming more widespread for Northern and Central Rockies region and with rain or mixed precipitation possible in the adjacent High Plains. Rain will increase across southern Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas as the southern flank of the cold front passes through the Southwest/Four Corners region. Excessive rainfall may develop over portions of southern New Mexico, therefore WPC has a Marginal Risk in effect as localized flooding may develop. An extensive area of high pressure in place from the Hudson Bay to Texas is aiding the East Coast cold front to track offshore today, and will shift toward the East Coast this weekend. Snow along the Appalachian spine will continue into Saturday morning before tapering off. Several Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from the Tennessee/North Carolina border northward to eastern West Virginia while a few Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for east-central West Virginia.
