Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 PM EST Sat Mar 07 2020 Valid 00Z Sun Mar 08 2020 - 00Z Tue Mar 10 2020 ...Record high temperatures again likely for portions of the Plains Sunday... ...Rain and snow for the Rockies tonight into Sunday... ...Rain to quell dry weather concerns over the Central Plains Monday... A frontal system over the northern Rockies will continue to sink southward and eastward with a cold front out of Canada on its heels to the north. This cold front will bring in cooler air to areas of Montana on Sunday and the High Plains/Upper Midwest Monday. Lower elevation rain and higher elevation snow will spread through the Rockies overnight and onto the western Plains later in the day into tomorrow night. This will help to ameliorate the dangerous fire weather conditions today over parts of the Plains. Rainfall will expand into the central Mississippi Valley on Monday where pockets of moderate amounts are possible along the I-70 corridor through Missouri. As low pressure lifts into the Great Lakes early Monday, some light snow or mixed rain/snow is possible on the northern fringe from northern Wisconsin into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Farther east, some snow is possible across northern Maine as the eastern part of the front moves southward from Canada. Another round of light rain/snow is possible over the Great Basin as well as coastal California on Monday. Temperatures over the Lower 48 will mostly be above normal for early March and well above normal (near or surpassing record highs) for parts of the central Plains on Sunday. Areas from western Kansas/Nebraska to the Corn Belt will see high temperatures into the 60s/70s until the cold front moves through in the afternoon/evening. The East will see milder temperatures on Sunday as surface high pressure moves offshore and southwesterly flow commences. Fracasso Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
