Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 113 AM EDT Fri Apr 10 2020 Valid 12Z Fri Apr 10 2020 - 12Z Sun Apr 12 2020 ...Much cooler and breezy for the East Coast today as snow tapers over Maine this evening... ...Cold air and significant snow to plunge into Montana Saturday... ...Heavy rain and severe weather threat increases over Texas into the weekend... As a deep area of low pressure continues to slowly pull away from the Maine coast early Friday, brisk northwest winds will bring 20-30 degree cooler air to the region. Snow will taper off overnight into Saturday across northern New England (especially Maine) after some significant accumulations. In addition, lake effect snow showers will drop several inches of snow downwind of Lakes Erie and Ontario with an inch or two also possible in the central Appalachians. Temperatures will start to rebound after a chilly Saturday morning where many areas are under a Freeze Watch or Warning. The upper-level low over southern California will slowly move eastward and spread some showers over the Southwest as temperatures stay below normal (only in the 60s/70s) thanks to abundant cloudiness. Milder temperatures to the north will be replaced by much colder air starting in Montana late today into Saturday. A strong cold front will bring in modest to significant snow to many areas of western Montana into Wyoming and the western Dakotas as the front sinks southward. To the south, as the old upper low weakens through New Mexico, a dryline will form over Texas and set the stage for a potentially active Easter weekend in terms of heavy rain and severe weather. This will first be realized over Texas on Saturday evening into early Sunday, then continuing eastward. Fracasso Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
