Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 226 AM EDT Sun Apr 12 2020 Valid 12Z Sun Apr 12 2020 - 12Z Tue Apr 14 2020 ...Flash flooding and severe weather threat for parts of Texas eastward to the Tennessee Valley and Southeast today... ...Significant cold and snowfall across the Corn Belt into the western Great Lakes... ...Rain and storms for much of the East Coast Monday... A potent storm system continues to organize over the central/southern Plains today as a cold airmass to the north collides with warm and humid air out of the Gulf of Mexico. This may set up a very active severe weather and flash flooding event first over Texas during the day then progressing eastward through the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Tennessee Valley and Southeast. The Storm Prediction Center has noted a Moderate Risk of severe weather from Louisiana to Alabama and a larger Slight Risk area over multiple states in the warm sector and just to the north of an advancing warm front. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall near and to the northeast of the highest severe weather threat. To the north, Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect from the Plains eastward and northeastward across the Corn Belt to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where several inches of snow is expected in the colder air. A foot of snow could fall over the U.P. of Michigan as the area of low pressure rapidly deepens and moves toward the central Great Lakes by early Monday. Wind will increase as well to the northwest of the low (resulting in blowing snow and cold wind chills) but also to the east of the cold front on strong southerly flow. Well above normal temperatures are expected for for much of the I-95 corridor on Monday before cooler air rushes in. Record highs are forecast for parts of the Gulf Coast today and over much of Florida today and Monday. Behind the front, record cold is likely from Montana across the Plains with readings more typical of mid-winter. Fracasso Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
